Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

more progress.

tail look way too straight, but they will be animated. could anyone know what would be good way to tail fin animation?

i only know blend shapes and using IK joints so far. but i never tried them.

where the tentacles attach to tail, i didn't want too many geometry so i'll texture w/ bump maps.

i just got the mckinley guy's gamers Maya book couple days ago, and i think i might try very low poly fish model of same one.

Looks good bubbleme80, bones and blend shapes thats all I know, I would go for bones as I have not really used blend shapes,
I have just one crit, the teeth don't look right, I think small triangle teeth would work better, almost like a sharks tooth.

ah yes, im deciding to change that.

initially, i got reference from pirahnas and tunas. And for teeth, i liked how deep sea angler fish teeth looked so i took that.

but the deep sea angler teeth do not fit here. I will try the tinier pirahna teeth.

btw. i didn't know there was previous challenge section. Haha, i thought this was the FIRST challenge in simplymaya. I'd hope for poly-count limit challenge for next one.

yeah the bump may be a bit too much. when combined with the specular, it looks a bit like the plastic food samples you see at restraunts. Good colors, especially liked the biolumenscient dots.

Looking good, but I think this thing would kill it self trying to eat anything. Needs some dental work user added image

OMG this is really good stuff. Maybe you shouldn't be in the noobsection. Well done! I would only change the eyes a bit.

FIXED:
- added and changed bump map
- changed color of lips and eyes

NEED FIXING:
- more contrast on the covering of head near the glowing bumps
-add incandescence map to make tips of tentacles pop more
-add transparency for fin parts
-bumps where tentacles meet body/fins

for background, i think i'll make a.. tunnel type of thing. or a cave. i'll make it out of polygon cylinder, but im not sure how lighting will work on it.. currently there are 6 lights.

does anyone know if it is possible to make some lights to pass through the cave, but some not to?

Stay noob for now, then bump if you want in a later competition. Seems we here this at least once in every competition. Let the user decide where he/she feels most appropriate. If the mods think they need to moved then the mods can say so and do so.

Bubble, looking good. glad to see the bump was brought down some. was looking like it had barnicles on it in the first bumped version.

do you mean you want some lights to light up the cave and others that just light the subject, if this is what you meant, try light linking, if you need more info about light linking let me know, or you can always go here and get the Light linking tut.

nice work on the textures
