Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

another layered texture question

HI everyone

yet another texture question, how do you make two different uv sets for the one object so you can layer one texture with an alpha channel over another in a different position that you can edit independantly.

thanks to anyone that can piont me in the right direction

Hello,

Once I posted the same question (almost). Maybe this could give you some ideas:

gosh thanks i will give this a go. i am not really understanding it at the moment, but i think it has more to do with my head killing me than the level of complication.

To create different UV sets just use the Create empty UV set option in the UV Texture Editor and then use Set Current UV set to move between them.

Remember to practise a bit moving around the UV sets before you dive in, they are actually quite easy to use you just have to get used to it.

I remeber that with one model I worked on I made multiple UV sets and used Multiple texture maps for the one object, I had to use the relationship editor to link the textures with the specific UV's I wanted to display I also used a multilayered shader and made sure I linked each texture's alpha into the multilayered shader.

It was kind of complicated and a bit of a pin in the arse but it worked.

Although I am guessing there is an easier way to do this!

You will find it, as with most complicated things in maya that it's a pain in the arse to begin with but the more you do it the more you will get used to it and the reasoning and flexability behind it!

If you can could you please post the results of if it worked for you mainly because it's been a while since I've done it myself so I was not completely confident with how I actually did it! I know I got the main elements but if you come up to any probs start postin it should hopefully job me memory! I hope!
