3D scanner cloud to surface

Hi,

at my university, we got an old 3d scanner, with the software ScanWorX.
I scanned somebody and try to put this scan into maya, to get a surface, which should be my reference for modeling this person (I don't want to use the scan file as finished surface).

But my problem is, that I don't know how to handle this cloud which comes from the scanner.
There are many small lines, which are triangles, but it's all a mess user added image

Anybody has an ideo, how to deal with this Object file?

The file can be downloaded here:

Leg .obj file (1MB)
