toon in boots

it's my first model in Maya!
(but not my first use of 3d)

It's actually my first character, too.
I realize that I have alot to learn.

I'm ok with just having the polygonal hair right now.
I think It suits this "toon" character.

I'm using Maya 8.
I have absolutely no experience with UV unwrap.
I'm looking for a seriously "for dummies" kind of tutorial to start learning UV unwrap... anyone know of any?

Rigging, etc. is also on my list of things to learn.
One step at a time.

first the modeling.
any thoughts?

everything appreciated
