I agree...started delving deeper into SSS and the mix20 shader. I also tweaked the head of this guy in the process and separated it from the body to just focus on skin. Here is what i have so far.

That looks pretty cool. theres a nice balance in the skin overall, well done.

Ive not tried the mix20 shader yet, Ive had it for ages, is it straight forward to use?

That mix20 shader is suprsisingly easy to use. You put the SSS shader as the base color and add layers as needed. There is an incredible tutorial in gnomon about it and SSS by a guy called Alex Alvarez or something like that.

Now...if i could use your color maps in this shader... user added image

Minstrel,

I checked out the mix20 at last after watching the Alex Alvarez videos, its very cool. I actually prefer the layered method of the blinns mixed with the fast skin shader. Its very similar to an old skin shader network (pre-sss) by Steve Stahlberg.

I think I'll be heading in the direction of this shader very soon with my character work...should be interesting LOL
