Flame to a path

how do i get the effect of a flame to follow along a path such as if i were to set flame to an object it would start from point A to point B not all at once. i have tried to use the create flow along a path, it works only with paricles. i can use the cloud effect, but is there a way to the use the fire dynamic. any advice would help greatly or if anyone know if there is a video tutorial somewhere out there. THANX!!!

Im using a nurbs circle and a curve I made as the path.

using 'partile in the options gives you subCurve 1 and subCurve 2' you animate from subcurve 2 in this case, just mess around with it and you will see

not a good picture as an example but i have gone to effects (selected the object first' and chose 'fire' I have keyed the object to start at one end of the curve and end at the other over 300 frames.

and it just keeps going until the end of the curve, you can use your imagination to use or modify this method in many ways.
