Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Arlaharen

Hi all!

I'm new to the forum and new to Maya aswell. Have been using 3dsmax now and then for a couple of years and have got myself a texturing/modelling work this summer (using max).
But after lurking this forum for some time and seeing all the cool stuff you guys do (and also inspired by my friend Björn, Fredriksson here at Simply Maya) I decided to give Maya a serious go.
I've tried to get inte Maya one time before, but didnt get past the "start to learn the interface"-part, so this time I motivate myself with a little project.
I thougt it would be cool to model Arlaharen.

My guess is that you havn't heard of him, but he's a scary badass character, shooting people who don't drink their milk every day. user added image

My only reference (and probably the only image there is of Arlaharen) is this:

Wow. That is very good man. It is a million times better than my first model. Did you triangulate that model, or are you just that good at keeping clean geometry???user added imageuser added imageuser added imageuser added image

Rumours say that smoothing works bad with triangles user added image, so I've tried to stick to quads.

and another thing. For a symetrical model like that it may be a good idea to learn how to use the cps tool.

The thing is that it's quite asymmetrical, actually. user added image
I was thinking of using some kind of symmetry thingie but decided not to.

Well, I just figured you would like to start off symetrical, and then deform at the end.

I'll do it on my next model. Could be good practice for me to edit alot of vertices, edges and faces now when I'm not familiar with the controls. user added image

Minor update: Added some toes, or feet, or whatever it is and nipples. Had some problems getting a smooth shape of the body after adding the nipples, but I think I got an ok result after some tweaking with the poly mesh.
