Graph Editor on a Mac.....problems problems problems

Does anyone out there have any idea why my animation graph editor would be so darn slow to update, and also why certain parameters, like Ambient Occlusion Distance for instance, won't show up? Are Macs buggy or something?

i don't know if it is supposed too show up... can't you just ket frame it? why would you want to animate it anyway, you could just use a fade node or something when compositing.

used it to make a neon sign glow. I'm sure there's better ways to do it but it was a rush job and it was the first solution I came across.
