Looks like a lot of unnecessary geometry on the base, shouldn't matter since it's for a still image, but could end up being a pain later.

just a tip, when you show the wireframe of a model you click the button that turns "wireframe on shaded" on. You can also turn it on with Shading > Wireframe on Shaded in the viewport.
it's just easier to see the wireframe if you don't see the backfaces too.

other than that this is looking pretty damn cool. are you using NURBS?
