hey some particles help please

hey guys i'm messing about with particles at the moment, and i have a newton field drawing all my particles to a point, but it literally compresses all the particles on top of it, anyway to have the particles hovering around it instead of sucked into it?

the more I Think I know about Maya the less I seem to know about it.

Not used a newton field before but have just looked it up, the control is the particals mass value you should be able to key frame this to 0 when it reaches the distance you require............dave
