This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Ram question

I am finally upgrading from 2gigs of ram: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211450

I bought two new sticks 4gigs each from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengea...9480514&sr=8-2

This is my motherboard setup: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130250

So the frequency of the two new sticks are the same and I know that my motherboard can support up to 16gigs of ram my question is:

Is it safe to mix and match ram sets? I have heard in the past that its not a good idea but I am unsure as to why. Should I just try and sell the old 2gig stick as opposed to leaving it in and having 10gigs?

Sorry I know this isn't specifically a Maya Question but hey the upgrade is to help the rendering process in Maya so I thought I would ask here.

Its not a good idea to mix RAM if they're of different speeds because then they'll only be as fast as the slowest.

So is that specific to the frequency like 1333, 1600? Because they are all going to be 1600. or is there some other number that I am missing. Hardware specs have never really been my best topic of understanding.

I think speed is the biggest thing (as you say, yours are the same), but there might be some overall stability issues. If you experience problems, just take out the old stuff.

Mixing RAM speeds is fine. Just remember that the faster RAM will run at the slower speed. Ideally you should have all your RAM at the same frequency, but all motherboards cope with this. I myself run 2 sticks at 12 and 2 at 6 and never have issues.

So yes, but best to keep them the same.
