Having two materials on one model?

Hello! I was wondering if it was possible to have two materials on one model in maya. like say, having a piece of armor be Blinn but have the models skin stay as a lambert.

i would not recommend you assign different materials to different faces, it would be better to have the geo all Blinn and have a specularity /reflectivity map to differentiate between the different areas.
A Blinn can be a Lambert with right settings.

No one mentioned this, so I will. Why are the skin and armour one model? Or was that just an example?
