Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

maya 2018 vs 2020 - viewport 2.0

Hi,

I've recently got a new Mac (newer MacPro), so I can finally upgrade beyond Maya 2018.

I've brought a 2k .png texture from Mudbox - it views fine in Maya 2018, but in 2020 I'm getting the 'out of video memory' alerts from viewport 2.0. The auto clamp knocks it as low as 32!

I'm buying new RAM and GPU for the Mac - is it just a case of waiting for the more recent hardware, or are there new settings for viewport 2.0 that I don't know about coming from 2018?
