CONSTRAINT BEING A B*TCH

Ok so what I have is a locator and a joint.

I am trying to constrain a joint to a locator.

So I select the Locator as the target object and the JOINT as the object to be constrained.

I select Constrain -> Orient BUT it tells me "Cannot add constraint or connections"

I have those exact directions from Maya 4.5 Savvy, and i dont know why it doesnt want to work...

The book is pissing me off..It calls itself a bible with directions that dont work.
