NURBS curves and lofted surfaces problem

all of a sudden lofted surfaces have stopped responding to changes in the curves they were lofted from. I tried starting a new project, but the problem persists. Did I unwittingly change some setting I shouldn't have? Does it have something to do with construction history?

you probably turned off construction history.

it was construction history. I knew it was something minor. Thank you, valiant one, for your help. user added image
