Fire

I have made the shape of a fireplace in maya and I would like to know how to create a fire to put in the fireplace.
Please could somebody help?

Create an object to attach fire to. It can be something as simple as a deformed plane or perhaps a log you have modeled in your fireplace. Select the log, then choose (under the Dynamics Menu) Effects>Fire and walla: you're done.

If you want to tweak it, select your particles and mess with the attributes in the channel box.
