Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Its pretty hard to tell whats wrong from that pic, maybe posting a wireframe or a pic of the wireframe with CV's could show up something.

Hey, the only thing i can think of, is you didnt use the split polygon tool in that area, if you subdivided.. you have to then use the split polygon tool and run it from one vert to the other, where you subdivided.

to me it looks like if the normals are smoothing wrong... try to "resmooth" everything again...

When ever THat happens to me, here is what I do, I select the object, and I go to Edit Polys, Normals, ans Soften Harden Normals. Usually the 30 works well. If that dosen't work, I would assume that It was a geometry Problem. Good luck, I am allways having to Soften Harden Edges, its really usefull when you want to show off a hard edge, or give the illusion that it is more smooth when you soften it. THats my 2 cents. THanks,
Brian

I would also try this, Select the object, go to your mere verticies option, Make sure it is like on .001, hit apply. Then go and try to Soften Harden edges. Hope this helps.

When I get that black box, (most of the time) it is from Extrude Face. If you selected that area, and applied Extrude Face, but didnt move the face, then you will get that box.

Other than that, I have no clue.
