1st step

Took about 4 hours of actual work.... plus 2 hours of figuring out what to do.

https://img149.echo.cx/img149/913/fisher1a5fm.jpg
https://img179.echo.cx/img179/876/fisher1b1lr.jpg

i drew the picture.. then tried to model... but i had no idea of how to even begin. So i found these tutorials.

https://members.aon.at/bulletin/sushi/
https://www.keongputer.com/tutor/mode...Man/index.html

they are both NURBS making.. so i just made it similiar to those then converted to Poly then to Sub-d.

i got some questions though.

1) the eye shield thing.. i like how the model turned out then the drawing but.. for curiosity sake, how do i make it hard shaped on the corners? w/o using "crease" on sub-d?

2) i was told to make everything "quads"... so i made everything quads.. yes.. even the tip of the tentacle whiskers are tiny quads.. except the EYEBALLS. Is not having the eyeball "non-quad" ok?

thx. i'll move on to tails > detail fins > clean up > texture.. i have absolutely no idea how to change background except color.. i'll have to find out how to make it look like under water.

nice modeling - you work pretty fast

about the eye shield part, maybe adding more faces would make it hard? im not sure but thats what i always do if i want something to be hard on the edge

Ah you mean, just split the polygon more? and it will be harder edged? i shall try that. thanks!

ooh.. one more thing..

3) there are like.. 6 little bumps on the fish's head. am i suppose to make those types of things part of the body geometry?.. right now they are just 6 little mushed sub-d spheres.. just lying on space intersecting the fish head. If i animate them, i am not sure how parenting works... will they be stuck to my fish? if i parent fish body to those bumps?

thx.

yep exactly...maybe experiment a lil and see how it goes user added image

about the little bumps, im not quite sure how i would go about it but i just seem to attach everything in to one object

that way you won't worry much about animating? hehe - just my opinion user added image

Nice fish man. I like the design of the eyes with its cybernetic thing attached. Im still changing my fins on my fish, sorta like the ones on yours. The shark like fins I had didnt match for the kind of fish it was. Keep us updated!

Looking very neat. My main crit right now would be the "squarish" shapes on the side of its head. Would be cool if they were a bit harder edged, like in the drawing.

Looks like someone already beat you to the punch with this concept:

mech fish

Ah. this was not meant to be a mech fish.

perhaps i might change the tail fins.. it was suppose to be a futuristic evolved fish with exoskeleton, not mechanical parts.

but now that i see, my drawing does make the fish look like a cyborg. hmm... not sure what i'll do w/ the tail.

The texture may keep it organic looking.
