shadow problems

another problem which i am faced with is the shadows not matching the position of objects flush to the floor. Please see image.

(problem areas ringed in red)

HAve tried a few things but none seem to work,

are those shadows raytraced or depth map?

they're created using a shadow map within the mental ray tab

Are you sure that light is not going underneath the couch? i.e is the couch fully touching the floor?

all sorted cheers for advice... ended up being the fact that i had shadow detail turned on... don't know why this would make any difference, but it seemed to
