This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Run through this tutorial, ignore all his talk about T-splines...its really hard to explain UV unwrapping and PS painting in a thread...but that tutorial is a start. There are lots of similar ones out there for ya too...just search "maya tutorial, UV"

edit: going to find a better tutorial

Here is another one...again not so good:

And another:

Eh, and another:

https://www.andrew-whitehurst.net/eyeTut.html

Just try them all...

look into mental rays "sub surface scattering" for that one.

I'd make a video but I'm away to work in a few mins.

thanks, I've tried to tutorial and it works but the only problem is that when I follow these same procedures with my monster head model, it fails to work. The Miss_maya_simple material is always highlighted in red and whenever I render, only the eye renders.

Here is my project https://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/OQ.../newmonster.mb

Do you know what I am doing wrong?

This is what I made with the tutorial

and this is what I consistently render when I use the same technique with the monster head; obviously, it's shiny/plasticy and doesn't look like skin at all.

I suspect that the (mysuperSSS) part is what's the problem but I don't know how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
