Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

New Project for a Modeling job.

Just my new project, I found a place that is hiring modellers, and they want to see what other modelers and I can do, they had 2 female characters to choose from to model. The final model has to be under 3 thousand faces.

Ok i've only spent about 2 hours on her so far, i'm still roughing the shape in with nurbs, will be turning them into poly soon.

kurt, your model has too much clothes, the sketch you are supposed to model wears less. you work to make the clothes smaller i guess - i would like to see her dressed up as the sketch says user added image

but great start

oh and one advice, dont hand out your maya file unless you have the job. maybe it is just not possible to stay under 3000 faces - so they want you to try as hard as possible, take the model for free only to tell you some other guy got the job user added image

Kurt, I wish you the best. The proportions seem to be pretty ok in your model except I'm not sure about the back of the chest area, cause I can't see it properly (or I've just had one beer too many user added image). It seems to be a little thin there (the side view)....dunno...

I know what you're capable of so keep it up! May the force be with you user added image

in the front view.. the chest seems to me as a probem.. the breast seems to be too close... They look like they have been glued togetheruser added image.... if you can just make em apart a bit so that you get a good shape of a human breast... might wanna check out some references..user added image

Ok five hours into the project, starting to shape more details. I wont add to much more detail to the straight body, I'll just start modeling the socks, shorts and arm bands using the same geometry. Female bodys are harder than I was expecting to model correctly.

Nurbs where the first pics just to rough out the shape, the newest pics are polys with a smooth.
