NURBS Modelling

Hi,
I only started maya a few days ago and I want to know how to create an object that has an unusual shape like a hand or an animal. Do you make objects with curves and patches?
Thanks Peter

most people use polygons for modeling of organic objects... but take a look at the free dog tutorial on this site, cause it starts with nurbs. it'll give you a pretty good idea of how to model using nurbs.
