Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

go to vertices and look on the left side of the second triangle a couple of them are off the general plane

When you model something and your changing the shape etc, the angle of some of the normals change, giving you those shadows. Hardeniing them sets em back.

You can also soften normals to to "smooth out" an object to a degree
