also... since im new to maya i cant tell so much, but is that one giant floor? or is it two planes perpendicular but made to look like one thing?user added image

Thank you. Its just a bunch of extrusions, the whiteness on the black one is the light coming through it a bit, I was messing with the scatter color and attributes and the ground is a curved surface.

Thanks for all the crits guys. I carried on with the experiments and learned how to better control the sss, though it looks weird and glowy on this new monitor.
