rotate manipulator all screwy (ATI bug)

hiyas.
there is an ATI bug (or so i read on CGPersia) which makes the rotate manipulator not work properly.
eg: after rotating in X, it is impossible to then grab the Y circle and move that, it would be stuck on X. :headbang:

i have dumped my ATI drivers and installed the very original ones that came with my card, and i know for fact that the problem didnt happen back then...

does anyone know a work around / fix, besides using the universal manipulator? it's making me hurt my keyboard. such a vital tool such as ROTATE should never be a problem... but i got it.
My vid card is an ATI 3850.
Next card, NVidia (in 6 months)

If I knew what I was doing, I'd be sane right now.

Ah nice you've fixed my problem....

I did a post with this same problem, i installed on my second boot XP (instead of vista which had this problem) and it worked fine but then i started having this problem with XP, I just installed the latest ATI drivers as well.

Now to rollback my drivers and get it working again user added image
I'll probably be able to rollback my drivers on Vista and get it working on that OS again user added image

If you go back to the ati drivers 8.12 it all works perfectly....and i don't seem to have any problems with games or anything.

i went up to 8.4 without problems.
i wish it was DirectX. they could make it openGL for Mac and Linux.
