Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Normal map problem

Hello,

I just added some detail to a model using Mudbox, it is not done yet but wanted to try out how I can transfer the details to my low res maya model, so I extracted a normal map and applied it to the lower res model in maya. It looks alright for the biggest part, but the eye sockets of the skull, aswell as the inside of the nose look very strange, and I am not sure why it doing what it is doing. Below is a picture of Mudbox -> Maya.

user added image

Does anyone know what the problem could be? The UVs are not overlapping.

You could try turning of the UV smoothing(under shape, advanced UV smoothing untick) in maya, another way would be to paint out the effected area in photoshop using the clone brush(I will possibly be fround on for this one). If these are seams check out areana site as they have a free tutorial..........dave

Is there a reason why you keep digging up and answering dead threads?

It's funny they were on the front page. It's not a big deal, I'm sure. Just the last post before yours was middle of 2011.

Nah I'm not bothered by it(not like that should stop anybody from posting haha)
I just found it really strange and couldn't fight the temptation to ask.

Seems like there are some technical difficulties, I'll shoot David a pm.

My apologies BldRnr, I can see how that might have come across as hostile even though it wasn't my intention. I didn't even notice they were already on the recent list for some odd reason. I wanted to see if you were an amazing bot or a wierdo user added image. Turns out you were just trying to be helpful and neither one of us was very observant lol..

See you around the boards.
