Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

how many polygons?

Hi everybodyuser added image
I´m working on a couple of characters and I would like to keep a low number of polygons used on the modeling of the character. Right now my character already´s got 1040 faces. Is that too much ?

But it would help to know what you want the model to be used for, and how far along in the modelling you are too user added image

Hi Stwert!user added image
Actually, i´m planning to make a short animated film (3 minutes or so). I plan to use in the same scene various elements for my background (houses, clouds, trees ...
I don´t intend to animate in the same scene more than two characters.
So ... I guess I really got to pay attention to the weight of these objects.

Just to give some context, in a recent "low poly character" challenge, the max limit given was 16,000 polys. Hope that helps.

3 minutes is a long long time. There are lots of people who post a few times on here saying they are doing a short film/animation. Then you never see them again, or their shorts. I'd suggest going with 30 seconds. user added image

hahahah!
Good advice honestdom! And wise toouser added image! Have you ever tried? I really wouldn´t mind to have the feedback of someone that tried to cross that desert and actually made it.
In my case, however, I intend to make about four or five scenes with 20 seconds ...

Agreed... aim for 30 seconds, or a minute. Storyboard it out and determine how long each shot will take.
