well i think. you are making a small mistake. follow this tutorial carefully its bit more complicated. make sure all joints are names as they are named in the tutorial and make sure all the constraints you apply are correct. first you try this tut again carefully. if you still not getting it. then i will tell you one another method much more simpler than this one user added image

well i think the difference between this tut and mine is that they're using block objects and mine is a single full model. I've gone back and followed the tut again but i'm still getting a funky setup.
