Computer upgrade

I currently have a e-machines t6524 with a AMD 3500 Althlon 64 processor 2.1 Ghz. with 2GB of ddr sdram 400mhz.

What kind of machine would I need to get to double my rendering speed?

Any information about dual, Quad processors and ram as it affects rendering would be great.

Rendering is pretty much down to the processor speed, so the fastest one you can.

The new i7 intel chips look shit hot at the moment, there was a test in 3d world a top end i7 trounced every other single chip as well as only being 25% slower than a dual quad Xenon system.
