Japanese text

I have to create Japanese text (Kanji) for a short animation. The problem is whenever I input the Japanese text, all I get are question marks. I've switched the font to the correct font that normally produces Kanji, and switched it from Western to Japanese, but I still get question marks.

How do I get Maya to create Japanese text?

hi starjs. actually, i do have font that produces kanji. i can type kanji, and in create text, i can also type in kanji in the textbox, but once I click on "create" or "apply" all i get on screen are question marks for each kanji, meaning maya probably doesn't seem to know how to turn the kanji into polygons or curves. so i was wondering maybe there's a setting somewhere in maya that i have to select in order for it to build kanji instead of just giving me gigantic question marks...

Interesting, have you tried typing that Japanese text into another program like Microsoft Word?
If it works in Word it should work in Maya.

But I have an idea...
- type the Japanese text in a Photoshop doc.
- select the text by using the magic wand
- right-click and select "make work path"
- make the tolerance 1
- Go to file then export and select "path to illustrator"
- then import that illustrator file into Maya
You should get the curves for your Japanese font in Maya itself.

Hope it helps!

Yes, it works in Word... but not in Maya.
By the way, I use Maya 8.5... maybe it's the version?

Anyway, I will try the photoshop/illustrator fix. Thank you!
