image planes

I want to model a car using my own drawing, now i know about scanning the pic into photoshp, but what i don't know is when i insert the image plane into maya, will maya automatically form the nurb/poly for me.

No. The image planes are there as a reference only. You will have to create all of the shapes and tweak them yourself.
