This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Problems with dialog windows in Maya 5

Take a look at the screenshot I'm attaching to this post. That is what I see in every dialog, ONE editbox and no labels!

I've repaired Maya 5 (it was a clean installation, but anyways...), and I did a reinstall.

But the problems still there.

Now here is what I think it could be, my graphics card. (But why would it be that anyways?) Well, it's a laptop and the GFX card sucks...

Would updating Maya help?

So, nobody knows what the cause of this problem could be?

Sorry, I can't help. Never heard of this sort of trouble...

(Maybe you need to check if there's any updates to your OS...)

I do not know if this is a coincedence or not but do you notice that all of us that are having funky problems with maya are running XP? Have you seen a post from someone saying "Crash" or "problem" that are running 2K? Just a thought.

Well, I've no fondness for XP (use 2K myself) but I do have a bit of a dying maya problem that I fully blame on my crap video card. Every now and again, maya will just quietly close, no error, no beeping, just....disappear. It's definitely taught me to save often user added image

As for the graphic problem, all I can suggest are the normal things:
* get the XP service pack SP1a (XP loves its service packs)
* make sure your vid drivers are up to date (unless they're the cat 3.7 ATI drivers, then get the cat3.6, as the 3.7s are crap)
* check background programs running that eat up memory usage (IMs, IE, etc)

GreyFox: that's a funky problem. How much ram do you have in your notebook. Maya requires a minimum of 512Kb to run properly. If you have less than that then it could be Maya doesnt have the resources to open everything and update windows. If you have sufficient RAM, then maybe try running the 5.0.1 update see if that helps.

Rick: I posted a crash problem and I'm on Win2K. Can't let you XP guys have all the fun. :p

I like XP, if you tweak it. It's like 2000 when you tweak it.

And I'm going to try the update.

And Silver who is also a member of this forum is a RL friend with the same Laptop, and he does not have these problems...

Well I upgraded Maya and it didn't help.

Gonna try installing older Gfx card drivers.

Looks like it might be XP Home that is the problem... our 3D teacher has the same problem with Maya as me and he got XP home and the same type of laptop.

So, it will probably be a change of operating system for me. Probably gonna try Linux on a partition this time too user added image
