killing particles

Does anyone know the mel command to kill specified particles? I need to kill off some particles based on time and their particleId. I have the code written to determine when and which particles need to go away, but can't find a command to end them. I tried setting the lifespanPP = 0, but that didn't work. Any other ideas?

Thanks.
