skinning problem

Hi

Very urgent help....

I am rigging a character in Maya 7...
The skin weights are not updating while painting the skin weights....

the elbow weight goes back to the default skin weight when i paint for the shoulder joint...

are you saying that the elbow weight's value resets, or that when you change over to shoulder it changes from white to black again? every time you paint weights for one bone, it changes the weights for the other (usually adjacent) bones, because you can't really have a combined weight value that's greater than one...

i have that problem what you are telling ...

but can u please explain the reson... Why or when this kind problems occur?? so that i will be aware of it when do in the next rig...

have you trimmed the small weghts that are no where near the joint your painting using the componant editor, I usualy get rid of these when painting just add never take away.
