layouting UVs in Maya

i got a couple of questions...all inputs are welcome. user added image

>if say i have a lowres model which i will smooth later... at what stage should i layout UVs, in the lowres or the smoothened one?

>if i assign projections and layout UVs in the lowres model, will i still maintain or retain the same/relative placement of UVs once i apply a smooth operation to the lowres model?

I think the answer to the first is:
in the LowRes-Model, otherwise you are in for a taste of hell

And from that it follows, that the second question is answered with:
yes

That would have been my answer too.

There is a UV techinique of using low res versions to create the UV maps and keeping them for use on higher res versions later.
