your best bet for a transparency is to use a tiff with an alpha channel.

assign a shader- in the color channel choose file and select the desired image.

Onces I am in Lambert, I right-click Color and it takes me to "Create Render Node". I can see some textures and stuff, but I dont see my picture? Is there a library in Maya where imported stuff gets stored?

in the color channel click on the checkerboard box- a window will popup choose "file" your shader window will open- next to the blank box that says "filename" there is a folder icon. click that and browse for your image file...

if you are applying it to that geometry you will first have to uv map it

Hit F1 and read up on the Hypershade. That's where you create all your shaders.

Hey Howard,
I don't know if you tried this, but when I turned off all the fancy graphic interface stuff for XP and set it to the W2K look my computer is now almost twice as fast.

I thought I'd throw that in there after seeing your screenshot, even though it's unrelated.
