Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Billboard casting shadows problem

Hi

I am using a billboard for a tree and using the regular alpha chammel technique for the transparency but no matter what I did - the plane still casts shadows upon an object which is behind the plane.

This is inside Mental Ray - Does anyone have a clue ?

can't say I've used Mental Ray, but usually using raytrace shadows works for that. not sure if MR does it differently.

I am not sure it is a bug but I tried every trick I know and some others and still. Fimnally I had to put the tree as a post process in PS.

Thanks

Still couldn't find out the solution in MR but in Maya Software Renderer it is corrected by using a zero value in Shadow Attenuation (Shader Raytracing Options)

This is a crucial issue for me !
