Maya4.5 and Mental Ray. Config problem

I recently bought Maya 4.5 and also downloaded Mental Ray 1.5 Beta from AW's site. It is installed as required in the right directory but crashes the program when I load it up from the Plug-In manager. Why???? I have a Standalone version. What is it configured for?
Thanks for any help...
