Editting primitives.

Say I select a cube, etc which has it's default settings and I want to increase the subdivisions in this cube without having to do it manually, i used to be able to expand the channel box and under pCubeshape1 or similar i could edit it. Now, for some reason I do not have the ability to do this, there are no options under the pCubeShape1. Any ideas, it's only a small prob and an easy work around but is a pain.
