New System

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a new system. Can you please recommend what's a great PC specifically for Maya? The OS will be windows 2000 professional. Can you please recommend what cpu, memory and video card(ATI??, GForce4??) I hear some ppl say that GForce4 Chipset are better than the ATI..is that true??... I'm fairly familiar w/ setting up systems...so i will put it all together on my own as a custom setup. I just don't know specs will perform well specifically for Maya... Thank you all again user added image

I forgot to mention I currently have PIII 800MHz w/ 512MB PC133 ram...and 32MB of ATI Rage 128 VGA...do you think is worth for me to upgrade the memory and video card or just get a brand new system w/ a faster cpu??

How much are you going to invest on this?

Well... I upgraded my system recently with:
- a new dual athlon motherboard
- two athlon XP 2000+ with heatsinks and fans **
- 1 GB of DDR ECC REG ram
- new 431W power supply

The whole bunch cost about $1300. With your budget there would still be some money left to get a new powerful vid-card.

** i had to modify these to get them run as dual. if you don't want to do the modification, just get the MP procs but they'll cost a bit more

I guess what I tried to tell you was that with a $1500 - $2000 budget, you could do that user added image

Well... at least upgrade the heart and soul of your 'puter user added image...
