Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Changing a referenced file into an imported one?

Hi there,

I've got a scene file with around 80 trees all referenced into the scene, this has started to cause some problems so I've decided just importing them would be better. Is there a way of changing the referenced trees into imported ones without having to re import and individually place them all over again?

Thanks in advance!
Simon

Can you explain what you mean by referenced?

The Layers system in Maya provides the ability to:

Template (greyed out wireframe) and it is shown by a T in the layers window
Reference (black wireframe) and it is shown by a R in the layers Window
Both these options make geometry unselectable
Blank (no option and blank box) will allow ou to work on an object.

ah sorry, I meant the files are referenced into the scene using the reference editor :-)
