Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

joint orientation?

Hey, i have a problem and i've tried using the built in joint orient (in 8.5) and some old scripts for when maya had no built in option but neithers worked.

I have 3 joints in a chain. Now what i want is for Z axis to point to the next joint in the chain, and for all the X axis for all joints ot be parrelel. If you imagine the three points forming a triangle. Each Z axis would be an edge to the triangle, and the X Axis for each joint would be at exactly 90 degrees to the triangle. Is this possible without manually doing it? Its killing me trying to manually eyeball it.

select all joints and hit

Display -> Transform Display -> Local Rotation Axes

then open the Orient Joint Options Box

and play with the settings.

everything starts and ends in the right place at the right time.
