help modelling a hole

hi i was wondering if i could get some tips on how to model the hole in my car right, basically i want the hole to have a sharper left edge so it looks more like the red arrow than the sweeping blue arrow, but is there a better way to do that than adding a whole bunch of edges and making the whole side of the model more denser because of it?

If you add edges in red then just straighten the edge in blue should be what you need...........dave

yes do what dave suggests and add a bevel to the upper diagonal edge and along the red arrow this will add sharpness. Then you will need to turn any resulting n-gons into quads or tri's.

I made a quick mock up of your topology and below are some screen shots of the basic idea we are talking about...

Here I have tightened up the leading edge and the inside corner edges but you can change the bevel strategy to suit your needs.

You need more geometry before you cut in the bevels and then you are also going to have to adjust some verts to release the tension in some areas. This is always a bit trick when you are going from an area that is creased to one that is more relaxed. You can average verts along with manually moving them. You can also use the sculpt tools but once again these work best when you have more geometry to smooth over.

ok awesome getting what you guys mean, i was getting some weird pinching on the top left corner, but top out some edge loop and it seems to have fixed.
