About This Course

Creating props for set dressing - Bonsai tree

In this tutorial we're going to take a look at creating a prop for a set dressing piece, specifically a bonsai tree. We'll start by creating the basic shape of the tree using Paint Effects. We then set up a test render environment and continue shaping the tree using a variety of different techniques from poly modeling to working with collision objects and line modifiers. From here we proceed to creating a complex root structure for our bonsai tree.

Finally we use the updated sculpting tools in Maya to create the rock the tree sits on and then finish off with a simple plant pot to keep it in and some renders of the final scene.
