Its a PCIe X1 slot connection instead of PCIe x16 slot connection used for most new GFX boards.

New mobo`s have 1 or 2 PCIe x16 slots, but tend to have 3 or more PCIe x1 slots, so in theory you could have a lot of monitors running.
