Rigging and Character Controls Help

Hello!

I am still relatively new to Maya and was trying to rig a character that I modeled that has no feet. I was wondering how one would go about setting up character controls. Images of the character are attached. I have the IK handles and spline for the spine set up. I am just at a loss for how to set up controls for "foot" area since he kinda just has a nub. I looked into the reverse foot rig but since he doesn't have a foot I don't think that is the best method.

Thanks!
