rendering changing background...

is there a way to change the rendered background ? without putting a large plane behind it :p
cause its allways bitch black and for composing its sometimes very very unusable (shadows or simply black objekts..)
or can i render it out on other way to geht the alpha in the scene for adobe after effekts...user added image

(sorry for my bad english...)

one way is to select the cam u r rendering from
and in the attributes, find the evironment tab and change the color u want from there.

The background has no matte, so it is transparent when compositing. Iff, tiff, and targa's have the alpha channel. Bmp and jpeg do not. The other formats I do not use.
