Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Modeling a SubD bra for effects shot

I have to create a bra for a scene where the actress is topless so that the scene can be shown on TV.

I figure SubD's or NURBS might be the best approach. My main concern is where I connect the two cups of the bra at the center. What's the best way to create a small bridge to connect the two cups together?

Thanks user added image

I would use nurbs for the basic shapes then once you got the shapes covert to polys attach everything together and add what ever detail you need ( smooth for one peice of geometry).. and would just have middle part look like a clip... Maybe find a real bra and take a look at the clips that would help you decide the best way of modeling it.

How do I delete half a NURBS sphere to form the cup?

Select the isoparms, Edit Nurbs > Detach.

How do I stitch edges from separate objects?

I converted the NURBS to Poly in hopes I can attach the separate edges of the two cups together. Is that possible?

Polygone > combine then go Edit polygons > merge vertices.... If its a poly object you can merge all the verts so it beccomes 1 object.

Can also polygons > append to polygon between the two halves once they've been combined into one object.

Edited for clarity.

Thanks so much, Kurt and Mike.

It's good to know that the Polygons > Append to Polygon works between two separate objects.

Not 2 seperate objects. Has to be 1 object.

So the approach should be:

Polygon > Combine and then used Polygon > Append to Polygon?
