Trim looks much better.. user added image The fire place is looking good also. I like the style of it. However I think I would make it bigger. I would think the mantel of the fire place should be at least as high as the window seal, if not a little taller.

As far as UV mapping goes, (something I still have a little fear over) I would think that since there are not a lot of faces or odd shapes in the logs you may be able to get away with auto mapping.
If not I would use a plainer mapping for the long edges of the logs. Then select just the face of the round ends of the logs and plainer map that. You may need to resize the UVs in the UV editor.. Speaking of the ends I just found this on the internet.

https://web.utk.edu/~grissino/images/...red%20pine.jpg

If you got photo shop you could make variation of this one pictures for most of the ends of the logs. Maybe make one to 4 different pictures so all the logs don't look the same.

As for the logs I would go for a pine look. See if maybe you can find a big picture of a sheet of plywood.

Remember this is all just what I think.. You can do what ever you want to do. It is looking good.

dgustavson, ---> nice picture u found, im going to use that. The mantel of the fireplace will be higher as u wrote. But in this stage i dont know i im going to use the inside of the cabin, but its perhaps a good idea to design the inside to if im going to use it for a scene.

yeh a bump map would work, might even be better cos it wud look like mortar if you just did a slight dent, id use planar mapping if i were u or maybe automatic then weld the edges together. depends what the mesh is like
