Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Jay, for clothing, do you model it? or use cloth simulations? I am amazed how good it looks.

Minstrel,

Thanks, I actually model it, I use Maya Complete and Zbrush now. Even if I had Unlimited I'd still model it as Maya cloth is a dog to use...

Cheers

Hey Si

Hows it going?

Thanks. As for hair, I dont know old you are so you may not be able to identify with it, but here goes anyway...back in the 80s there was a band called the Human League and the lead singer was a guy called Phil Oakey, he had this long 'wedge' style hair cut with one side draped almost across one half of his face, while the rest was short. Im going for a greasy version of that.

I'll try and find a pick of him....

Cheers

things are good Jay, you?

hehe, yep I remember the human league but at the time wasn't into music much (only being a youngster).

The hairdo should suit his semi-hunched appearance well, like someone who lumbers along or maybe even in a lurch style user added image

i know the hair's not finished yet, but i can't help but say it looks like he went from gruff to drag queen with just a shot of the hair blocking... could we get some different angles maybe? i just can't help but think of the guy that was half man half woman (and also wore half a tuxedo and half a dress) that would dance with himself because of that hairdo *shrug*

Yeah what ever turns you on. Once all the stray hair is on it will make sense.

The actual hair is from an 80's band called the Human League, see the post further up......

i saw that half man half woman when i was a kid, man, strider you cracked me up. now THERE would be a challenge for a model.

man, knocking them dead as usual jay.

i remember the band too, there were a lot of bands around then with hair cuts like that, but if you think thats weird, how were the haircuts of the seventies (and i was one of them eekkk, but can be excused due to age and being easily influeneced, gullible) remember starsky and hutch?? Garry glitter, Kiss, need i go on , we will all be sick.

im starting to think your designing games on the side, but i know, this will be a hell of a graphic novel, you must be happy to be so accomplished at this art jay.

take it easy and life will be easy

Acid:Thanks, Emo? I dont know that one dude (UK based)

Mirek:, thanks, yeah dodgy hair cuts, I rmeber my own, (when I had it, I shave it all off these days, its a hit with the wife LOL though it does freak my daughter)

But no I dont design games, unfortunately, I just create 3d comic strips during the day online with my guys here(www.redparkcity.co.uk). Id love it to be better but deadlines are a constant headache, so stuff is bashed out in a day

Cheers

Hey Jay,

Good to see you back!

Emo is a style of music, emotional hardcore I think it means, came into full terms in the mid/late 90's for bands such as Jimmy Eat World (Now guys I dont wat to start a debate on if they are Emo or not, just an example in my mind).

Looks cool so far, kinda reminds me of the Guy Gary Oldman Played in the 5th element, heres who I mean.

Looking forward to some updates!

Steve

Hey Steve

Thanks, and thanks for the explanation.

Yeah Gary Oldman was a complete psycho in 5th element, he's a good actor. I think I'll post some roughs of this guy up later as I dont think many people are 'getting' what this is going to look like.

And if some crud debate starts, dont worry, Im a mod so I can abuse my power and delete to my hearts content LOL :attn:

Cheers for now
Jay
